Do you interpret samples from all species?

Our focus is diagnostic pathology for companion animals, primarily domestic species including dogs, cats, and companion horses. Sometimes we get the occasional biopsy from a pet cow or pig, too!

We do not interpret samples from racehorses.

For biopsies/histopathology in particular, the Animal Health Laboratory in Guelph, Ontario has anatomic pathologists with specialized interest in, and experience with, avian and exotic species including reptiles, amphibians, and fish. There are other government-runs labs in Canada with similar expertise; contact us if you need more information for your particular province.


What is your USUAL turnaround time?

Every sample is from an important four-legged family member. Typical turnaround time for histopathology is two business days from the day the sample is received; for cytopathology, one business day from the day the sample is received.

Priority is always given to samples from patients that are in-hospital/ill.

Samples that contain bone or that require additional processing for other reasons may take more time.


WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

Fees vary by geographic location and other factors. Contact us for a simplified directory of fees and services for your province (full directory available to registered clients only).


DO YOU TALK TO PET OWNERS DIRECTLY?

We are legally allowed to discuss results only with the veterinarian who submitted the sample. Contact your veterinarian if you have questions about the pathology results.


CAN WE SEND A SAMPLE IF WE are not registered?

No, we only accept samples from clients that are registered with VETPATH Canada. You can register here.


CAN WE USE SUPPLIES WE ALREADY HAVE?

Yes, you can use supplies you already have. Newly registered clients will also receive a starter kit of supplies and these are replenished upon request .


HOW DO I REQUEST A PICKUP?

Sign in to your Purolator account online. Refer to your VETPATH User Guide for more information. Purolator has a quick start guide as well.


HOW WILL I GET RESULTS?
